The traditional meaning of a lineage is an ancestry or pedigree that is linear by nature. The biological lineage of Kosi began with her parents, featured here in this 1950 photograph standing on an oil rig in Saudi Arabia—an unlikely place for two Americans to meet in that time period, but meet they did and not long after this photograph was taken they eloped to Geneva Switzerland.
Kosi's father was a World War II B17 pilot and her mother had been a model in Los Angeles before taking a job at Saudi Aramco where she would soon meet her future husband. Kosi's parents had survived the Great Depression and a world at war and their experience instilled in Kosi a sense of integrity and strong work ethic.
Like all of us our lineage moves from parent to grand parent an on and on, fundamentally a lineage takes you back in time. A spiritual lineage is similar to a family lineage in that it you back in time to the founder of the spiritual teaching and lineage. It also represents the omniscient transmission of a particular teaching.
This particular lineage lives in the omniscient Heart of Sri Amma Karunamayi who is a recognized Avatar and Living Saint. In India a lineage is recognized as a Gotra or Gothra and Kosi was present at Sri Amma Karunamayi's Pennisula Ashram in December of 2012 when Sri Amma Karunamayi asked her students to accept the Gotra Kasyapa fully as their lineage and heritage.
The Kasyapa Gotra encompasses all of creation and dates back to the ancient Rishi Kasyapa to whom some of Hymns of the Rigveda are attributed. Kasyapa also means Turtle, which in many indigenous cultures symbolizes the Divine Mother as well as the Earth. Kosi feels that the Kasyapa Gotra is in perfect alignment with her teaching, her deep devotion to God and Truth as well as the auspicious appearance of Sri Amma Karnuamayi. It is also pure Grace that many of the ancient mantras documented in the Rigveda were composed on the Kosi River in India.
Since June of 2001 Kosi has been a deeply devoted student of Gangaji as well as the lineage and teaching of Sri Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi. Her relationship with Gangaji was profoundly deep, but to Kosi's surprise her long term relationship with Gangaji ended once she received shaktipat initiation from Sri Amma Karunamayi. Kosi recognizes that the combination of Ramana's transmission of Silence and Self-inquiry combined with the Grace and Omniscience of Sri Amma Karunamayi is the essential teaching and potent trasmission that leads to true Liberation.
Ramana Maharshi maintained that there was no need for a lineage due to the simple fact that Silence and Self-inquiry reveals the Living Truth in your own Heart. Kosi deeply realizes that one deep look into the depths of your Heart is all that is required to realize your eternal freedom—the truest teacher—the Living Presence of the Heart. At the same time, based on her direct experience; the teacher, teaching, and lineage offer essential support for breaking free of the powerful limitations of the egoic mind.
Kosi's passion is sharing her direct experience of the Omniscience and Love of Sri Amma Karunamayi as well as the power and grace of Silence and Self-inquiry as demonstrated and taught by Sri Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi. Her purpose is simply to point you to the vast aware presence that is in the core of your Being. She simply invites you to discover for yourself the happiness and fulfillment of your inherent nature.
